# Voice AI Intelligence & Task-Linked Timers
*October 27, 2025*
## What's New
This update significantly enhances the Voice AI experience, making it more intelligent, context-aware, and seamlessly integrated with your workflow. The AI now understands the full capabilities of MakeTimeFlow, provides better guidance on goals and measurement, and can start focused work sessions directly from your task list.
## Major Improvements
### 🎙️ Enhanced Voice AI with Text Chat
**Interactive Text Chat Mode**
- Voice conversations now support both spoken and text-based interaction
- Switch seamlessly between voice and text within the same conversation
- Perfect for situations where you can't speak out loud but still want AI assistance
- All the same powerful tools and context available in text mode
**Smarter Tool Usage**
- AI now automatically refreshes your task list after making bulk changes (3+ tasks)
- You can immediately see what changed without having to ask
- Better visual feedback and confirmations throughout conversations
### ⏱️ Task-Linked Timer Starting
**Start Timers from Your Task List**
- AI can now start timers directly linked to your tasks
- Say "let me start working on the proposal" and the AI will:
- Look up the task ID from your list
- Start a timer linked to that specific task
- Use the task's expected duration (or override if you specify)
- Mark the task as started automatically
- Open the timer interface immediately
**Clear Distinction: Starting vs Recording**
- **startTimer**: For beginning work NOW - "let me start that", "time to focus on X"
- Links to your task, uses its duration, marks it as started
- Opens active timer interface for focus mode
- **captureTimer**: For logging PAST work - "I spent 2 hours on X", "I worked on that for 45 minutes"
- Records completed time without disrupting current flow
- Great for end-of-day time tracking
### 🎯 System Capabilities Awareness
**AI Knows What MakeTimeFlow Can Do**
- The AI now understands all platform features and can proactively suggest them
- Contextual recommendations based on what you're working on:
- Morning? Suggests Begin Well ritual
- End of day? Recommends Shutdown ritual
- Planning your week? Guides you to Weekly Planning
- Setting goals? Explains Success Stories, KPIs, and Habits
**Intelligent Feature Detection**
- AI notices when you haven't tried certain features
- Offers relevant suggestions at the right moments
- Provides direct links to features with proper navigation
- Never overwhelming - suggestions are contextual and timely
### 📊 Clearer Goals Framework
**Success Stories ARE Your Goals**
- Clarified that your rich, narrative Success Stories are your primary goals
- KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) measure your 3 most important quarterly outcomes
- Habits track short experiments and new productivity techniques
- Not everything in your Success Stories needs to be measured - be selective!
**Updated Throughout Platform**
- Help documentation now clearly explains the hierarchy
- AI assistants understand and communicate this framework
- UI labels reflect the correct relationship between goals and measurements
### 🧠 Enhanced Context & Identity
**Creator Identity**
- AI knows about Narath (pronounced "Na-rath"), the creator of MakeTimeFlow
- Distinguishes between itself (AI assistant) and the creator
- Can answer questions about the system's philosophy and design
**Task Highlight Awareness**
- AI understands the concept of your ONE highlighted task per day
- Asks about highlights during morning planning
- Celebrates when you complete your highlight
- Reminds you that highlighted tasks represent what makes your day successful
## How It Works
### Starting a Task-Based Timer
**Scenario 1: Working on a task from your list**
```
You: "Let me start working on the proposal"
AI: [Looks up "proposal" task, finds ID 1234, expected_duration 90 minutes]
AI: [Calls startTimer with task_id=1234]
AI: "Timer started - 90 minutes. Get to work!"
[You're taken to active timer, timer is linked to task]
```
**Scenario 2: Overriding task duration**
```
You: "I want to work on the proposal for just 1 hour"
AI: [Looks up task ID 1234]
AI: [Calls startTimer with task_id=1234, duration_minutes=60]
AI: "Timer started for 1 hour. Let's go!"
[Timer uses your specified duration instead]
```
**Scenario 3: Custom focus session**
```
You: "I want to do a 45-minute focus session"
AI: [Calls startTimer with task_title="Focus session", duration_minutes=45]
AI: "45-minute focus session started. Let's go!"
[Timer created without task linkage]
```
### Using Text Chat with Voice AI
**Switching Modes**
- Click "Start Text Chat" to begin text-based conversation
- Click "Start Voice" to switch to spoken conversation
- All your conversation history and context carries over
- All the same tools and capabilities in both modes
**When to Use Text Chat**
- In a quiet environment where speaking is awkward
- When you want to be precise with complex instructions
- For quick check-ins without audio setup
- When you want to copy/paste information
## Best Practices
### Voice AI Interactions
**Be Specific About Your Tasks**
- Instead of: "Start a timer"
- Try: "Let me start working on the client proposal"
- The AI can link to the actual task and use its context
**Use Past vs Present Tense Intentionally**
- "I'm going to work on X" → Starts a timer (present/future)
- "I worked on X for 2 hours" → Records completed time (past)
- The AI understands the temporal difference
**Let Bulk Updates Complete**
- When AI updates multiple tasks, it will refresh the view automatically
- You'll see all changes at once without having to ask
- Reduces back-and-forth and makes changes clearer
### Goals and Measurement
**Start with Success Stories**
- Write your weekly, quarterly, and 5-year Success Stories first
- These are rich narratives describing your desired outcomes
- Don't worry about measurement yet - just envision success
**Add Selective Measurement**
- Choose 3 KPIs for your most important quarterly outcomes
- Add Habits for new techniques or experiments you want to track
- Not everything needs measurement - only what matters most
**Regular Review**
- Review Success Stories in planning rituals
- Check KPI progress weekly
- Use Habits for short-term experiments (2-8 weeks)
